The existing building on the site is known as the Sydney Chevra Kadisha, or the Jewish Burial Society, was founded in 1817 and comprises of a chapel, mortuary, administration building and caretaker’s residence. The Chevra Kadisha is significant in that it is the only Jewish funeral home in New South Wales and attends to all funeral arrangements and services for the Sydney Jewish community and surrounding area, operating 24/7 except for Holy Days.
The SCK Board have engaged HGW Projects to perform the key Project Management role from commencement, leading design feasibility planning and through the construction and delivery process.
The project involves Demolition of the existing Administration and residential wing, the Construction of new four-storey wing, addition of New mortuary and family spaces, the Refurbishment of and extension to existing Chapel, and the creation of an external hearse parking and gathering space.
